Description

In Japanese culture, art and poetry often go hand in hand. In this series of ukiyo-e, bina’s haiku too, has been inspired by each ukiyo-e with her appreciation and deep thoughts. — Hidenori Hiruta, Founder-Director, Akita International Haiku Network, Japan

‘Ukiyo-e Days… Haiku Moments’ is indeed an elegant and unique collaboration of artist, poet and printer. Many believe the magic of haiku is that the poet and reader complete the poem together. In this book, each haiku is crafted with precision to create a marvellous imagery and at times, into a spirituality that is palpable. Bina has created a timeless unification of the past and the present… to be savoured well into the future. — Alan Britt, Poet and Professor of Creative Writing, Towson University, Maryland, USA

I am deeply grateful to be part of Bina’s new publication, ‘Ukiyo-e Days… Haiku Moments’. Both ukiyo-e and haiku had originated and evolved as an art form intrinsic to our Japanese culture since the Edo Period (now Tokyo). Bina has celebrated ukiyo-e and haiku with a synchronism… like a dialogue with each other; a conversation that is very refreshing.  —Keiji Shinohara, Ukiyo-e artist and Professor, Wesleyan University, Connecticut, USA
