Red River Story

The subcontinent is full of stories, especially in its small towns and non-metro cities, and in the polyphony of its myriad languages, national and regional. Our goal is to highlight those stories that fail to find the right platform because they do not fit the format set by mainstream publishers. So, while we are not exactly drawing any exclusive line, we look for stories from the subcontinent that are interesting, important, relevant, and of course, short. Stories that speak to us from and of the hinterland and the heartland.

Red River Story publishes connected short fiction collections and novellas under an editorially curated series. We look for offbeat stories, stories that may not interest traditional publishers.

Apart from the series, we also publish translations and nonfiction titles, as well as novels and short story collections that may not be connected thematically or otherwise.

Red River Story is a collaboration between Red River, a micro-independent publishing venture focused on poetry, and Sucharita Dutta-Asane, an award-winning writer and independent book editor based out of Pune. As Managing Editor, Sucharita Dutta-Asane is involved in every aspect, from commissioning to publicity. The ‘Red River Story Series’ is editorially curated by her and carries her name.
