Description

Illustrations by Mithila Baindur.

Of Bhumika R’s poetry, one could simply say that her delight in language echoes her immersion in the beauty of the everyday. Her poems remind us that few things in life have real importance. The familiarity of her materials is what makes this collection so enchanting.
Suranjana Choudhury, author and teacher

Bhumika’s poems reflect, more than anything else, her faith in the need for poetry in our times. Across these poems, we repeatedly see the poet experiencing a certain stagnancy of time, resulting in a slow decaying of life. The trucks are not able to move ahead, the woolen yarn is not crocheted, and humans are reduced to uniform bodies and barcodes.
Samvartha ‘Sahil’, translator and writer

Bhumika R has taught English language and literature at the undergraduate and postgraduate level for three years. In August 2022, she decided to focus her energies on writing and translation. She writes poetry and short fiction in English and many of her writings have been published in various literary eZines and magazines. She also translates poetry and fiction from Kannada into English and vice versa. Her Kannada translation of Malsawmi Jacob’s Mizo (English) novel, Zorami is in press and might hopefully be available for readers around early 2024. Currently, she is working on translations of MS Murthy’s Kannada novel, Bowl and N Sandhya Rani’s Kannada novel, Ishtukaala Ottigiddu to English. She lives between Jammu and Bengaluru. The Language of Unhealed Wounds is her debut collection.

Mithila Baindur is a multidisciplinary artist and art educator, working with educational illustrations for over a decade. She is lately been inclined towards more of poetry and children’s book illustrations.
